TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

This application is specifically intended to be installed on the motorcycle specified on type-approved product sheet included in the supplied kit.
On the enclosed fitting instructions sheet, you will find a component list. Please, check to see if all required components are included.
Also inspect these items for possible damages or defects: if this is the case, the installation needs to be stopped immediately. Contact you MIVV dealer for an appropriate solution.
Before working on a motorcycle, wait for the engine to be cooled off.
Please, note that high temperature can cause sever burns to your skin.

Installing a MIVV exhaust requires technical knowledge. So, we recommend that you let a specialist do the following operations.

HOW TO INSTALL A MIVV EXHAUST
  • Remove the original exhaust (according to the manufacturer’s instructions).
  • Check if connections (cylinder, collector) are clean and without any defect.
  • Also check original gaskets for signs of wear. Replace these gaskets (if worn) with new ones.
  • Install the MIVV exhaust before tightening fasteners and clamps. This offers you the possibility to align the exhaust correctly before finally tightening all clamps and fasteners. When installing the MIVV exhaust, you need to be sure that the exhaust is placed at least 2 cm (3/4”-7/8”) away from any parts or accessories that are sensitive to heat. He exhaust must be aligned correctly so that the direction indicators and possible accessories are not situated directly in line with the hot exhaust gas flow from the muffler.
  • Be sure to tighten all fasteners after alignment.
  • Start the engine and wait a few minutes for the system to warm up. Possible exhaust leakage is not a symptom of defective operation.

Specific installation instructions can be found on the product sheet or in the enclosed instruction booklet.

Use penetrating oil spray for sliding connections and brass grease for screw connections.

Approximately 100 and 500 km (70 and 300 miles) after installation, check to see that the fasteners and clamps are tight. Readjust the exhaust, if necessary. At every service, be sure to inspect the MIVV exhaust and repeat the above check and adjustment.

Additional MIVV product specifications will be indicated on the enclosed product sheet.

FOR PROPER ADJUSTMENT

Each MIVV exhaust has been developed on a standard motorcycle with standard adjustment. Therefore it is not required to modify the fuel set up of your motorcycle.

In case of certain models, however, it is possible the set up is not optimal or differs from the test model as used by MIVV. This might be the case with modern injection controlled engines and it is related to with emission standards and climate/altitude conditions.

We recommend that you let your dealer check the air/fuel ratio after installation of the exhaust to maximise the performance. If required, the air/fuel ratio can be modified with a PowerCommander or a Dynojet Carburettor jet/needle kit.

USEFUL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCT PROPER USE

To maximise the performance of MIVV exhaust:

  • Check from time to time if the fasteners and clamps are tight.
  • Maintain and keep you MIVV exhaust clean.
  • Be aware that the exhaust and/or parts can reach very high temperatures.
  • Avoid contact with the skin, as well as clothing and footwear.
  • If you have an exhaust equipped with interchangeable inserts or with a db-killer, use the necessary tools to remove or install these items.

Using non-typed approved products on public road can be conflicting with local laws. MIVV S.p.A. declines any liability in this matter.

TOP MAINTENANCE

Regular maintenance will help keep your exhaust in top condition.
Please ask your MIVV dealer for any advice you may need.

You can clean the surface of the MIVV exhaust on a regular basis.
First, the MIVV exhaust must be cool to the touch. Do not attempt to clean a hot exhaust.
Use a soft clean cloth or sponge with lukewarm water and a non-abrasive cleaning product. For instance, Car shampoo acts properly.
Stainless steel and titanium surface can be cleaned regularly with a penetrating oil spray. A light buffed layer of this spray will make maintenance easy. Carbon filter can be cleaned with a soft clean cloth.

Through long term and/or high performance use, the packing material of your exhaust can degrade over time. Your MIVV Dealer can advise you if this repacking procedure is necessary. Possible symptoms are an increasing sound level and exterior discolouring. When this occurs, we recommend that the exhaust muffler be repacked immediately by your MIVV dealer. Possible discolouring of the exhaust due to degraded packing is not included in the terms of our warranty.
