We’re driven by passion

This is the spirit with which we carry our “mission” forward.

We want to offer motorcycle exhaust systems that are the best in performance, looks, and brand identity.

We aim to exalt our customers’ passion for motorcycles.

To achieve this result, MIVV has organized itself over time with human resources that are strongly motivated in the quest for success.

The ideas, solutions, and application of the “best practices” are all focused on a precise goal: to be a market leader thanks to exhausts characterized by high technological standards.

Our name is synonymous with “top class” products that undergo constant testing in order to guarantee their maximum performance.

We have achieved these results thanks to:

  • An international-level group.
MIVV Group is one of the major companies in the design and manufacture of motorcycle exhaust systems. It has three production plants, 250 employees, an R&D center, 20 million euro in revenues, and over 30 designs for original exhaust systems developed in recent years, including the Ducati Monster, 996, Multistrada, Hypermotard, Aprilia RSV 1000, RS 125, Pegaso, Scarabeo, and Yamaha Bulldog. This “track record” has enabled us to transfer our experience to the after-market production, for the benefit of our customers, who find the best that modern technological research can offer in the MIVV exhaust system.

  • Research and development. A fundamental process for success.
The engineers that work in our research and development department can count on a cutting-edge structure and instruments: in fact, our R&D has a semi-anechoic room for noise measurements in controlled environmental conditions, in addition to various types of engine test benches (an eddy current static bench, a roller bench, and two dynamic benches).

The types of measurements we carry out are:

    1. Performance of the exhaust system (torque and power at the wheel; exhaust gas counter-pressure)
    2. Acoustic measurements (phonometric tests; “transmission loss” measurement by means of a white noise generator; quality tests on the exhaust system sound)
    3. Vibration measurements (by means of an accelerometer to quantify the shell noise)
    4. Temperature measurements (by means of thermocouples and infrared thermography)

The design phase starts with the approximate numeric simulation of the exhaust system, applying the appropriate contextual conditions that best imitate real utilization conditions. The results obtained are used to create a prototype, which is perfected on the basis of the results obtained from the experimental values provided by the test bench and from an exhaustive series of phonometric measurements. The latter make it possible to calibrate the total noise to within levels permitted b law, without jeopardizing the performance of the exhaust system. A sound quality analysis using a spectrum analyzer is carried out to find bothersome or dominant tones in the sound emission of the exhaust system, in order to calibrate the sound to obtain tones that are pleasant and attractive to the customer (sound quality).

Temperature measurements under stress are used to highlight critical problems that might occur on particularly stressed elements.

Lastly, the exhaust system is subjected to an aging cycle that aims to test its structural reliability throughout its entire lifetime.

This, in a nutshell, is why we can guarantee innovative exhaust systems!

  • “Made in Italy” design as an asset of excellence.
An MIVV exhaust system is created with the utmost attention to design, thanks to the skill of our technicians. The excellence (the most recent line, “Suono”, is our showpiece) is developed by working together with the most important designers of the motorcycle sector.

There are numerous new innovative designs, like “Suono”, that we have patented.

Among MIVV’s duties is that of meeting the needs of those who want to distinguish themselves also through the personal look of their bike. And in this context, the exhaust system is one of the important elements.

  • We choose the best materials to achieve the maximum lightness.
The design and development of MIVV exhaust systems are defined with procedures that impose the choosing of the best materials available on the market.

The most technically evolved versions, usually used in professional contexts (Power line Full Titanium), are developed with the use of Grade 1 titanium, a metal that permits a weight reduction of 40% over basic steel. In addition to being extremely lightweight, titanium absorbs oxygen at high temperatures, becoming fragile, and so it is unsuitable for the temperatures generated by engines. For these applications, MIVV uses special titanium alloys that are capable of limiting oxygen absorption and thus offer a better resistance at the high temperatures, over 800°C, generated by engines; this, of course, without giving up titanium’s characteristic light weight. The Power line Full Titanium is proposed with these titanium alloys. Also of fundamental importance is the choice of the thicknesses, which influence the product’s weights and fatigue resistance. To obtain these characteristics, MIVV has employed production technologies that can work on very low thicknesses (from 0.6 mm to 1 mm). The carbon fiber used in our exhausts is 3K 200 g/m² carbon twill soaked with special resins capable of resisting at high temperatures. In the versions for competitive use, we can guarantee a resistance to temperatures over 200°.

Lastly, we focus great attention on sound-absorbent materials, since they are fundamental for reducing noise and heat, using cartridges made with a blend of fabrics (texturized 14-micron CE) studied specifically to reduce noise – especially at high frequencies – and capable of resisting at high temperatures.

  • We always guarantee innovative exhaust systems
MIVV is a motorcycle exhaust specialist, and as such it works to guarantee that what it produces is the best the sector has to offer.

Every day our marketing office listens to the needs of the motorcycle community, in order to always be in harmony with the interests of biking aficionados. Also of great importance for us is the pre- and post-sales assistance service, which must always meet expectations.

In the design of the internal part of every exhaust system, our technicians use, depending on the needs of the bike on which it will be mounted, an expert mix of silencing elements, sometimes basing themselves on the absorption of sound energy with dissipating elements, sometimes applying reactive solutions, and sometimes using both.

On the types of silencers for which the only objective is performance, particular silencing elements are used (air column and Helmholtz resonators), tuned to the characteristic emission frequencies of the engine and its fundamental harmonics. This operation also makes it possible to lower the noise level without creating an excessive exhaust gas counter-pressure. This solution is used by MIVV on a number of systems for sport-street bikes (Sport line) and on systems created for the motocross and motard sectors (Stronger line).

With regard to the valves used with the exhaust (technically EXUP valves), along the original manifolds, we can say that the standard control box, modulating the rotation of the valve on the basis of the rotation speed and gear engaged, acts as a throttle and reduces the flow of the gases for the sole purpose of guaranteeing low acoustic emission, especially at type-approved speeds. With a view to achieving the maximum performance, these valves are removed to guarantee the lowest exhaust gas counter-pressure and a resulting higher increase in power and motive torque. When the system layout requires the removal of the valve, it is deactivated, where necessary, by means of appropriate mechanical systems specifically developed by MIVV.

Nevertheless, for those who prefer to keep it, we are developing, with our team that handles the electronic part, a module that permits an ON/OFF control of the throttle valve.

The racing type MIVV exhaust systems (Power line) are, on the other hand, designed taking into consideration the elimination of the valve itself.
